New Delhi: To commemorate the contribution of Late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the eleventh President of India, to the world of Science, Jamia Millia Islamia established A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Gate in his honour. His vision for a prosperous and safe India resulting out of economic prosperity and coupled with civilization heritage guided Jamia to pay an abiding tribute to the man who redefined presidency to become People’s President.
Jamia has already instituted a Scholarship in his name to be given to 50 economically disadvantaged students every academic year.
Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, JMI inaugurated the A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Gate on the morning of May 2. The event was attended by the Registrar, Finance Officer, Supdt. Engineer, JMI and other senior officials of the university. The event coincided with the inauguration of the renovated Administrative Block (Ground Floor) that comprises Vice-Chancellor’s Office, 2 Conference Halls, 2 Conference Rooms, 2 Visitor’s Room and office space with cubicles for administrative staff associated with the Vice-Chancellor’s Office and a common Dining Area. The entire renovated complex is driven by Go Green initiative that has made the sprawling structure very energy efficient.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, JMI paid glowing tribute to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam for his contribution to the field of education and his tireless campaign as President of India for promoting access and equity in the domain of education.
