The number of Muslim candidates this time stands at 59, two more than the 2011 elections, with 33 from Trinamool Congress. The list includes Mohammed Siddiqullah Choudhary, a member of AIUDF who contested on a TMC ticket from Mangalkot. TMC had fielded 57 Muslims in elections. Also, Dr Nuruzzaman, who was previously a MLC from Deganga, won again despite changing his constituency to Purshura, Hooghly. Interestingly, the Deganga seat, the largest Muslim dominated in North 24 Parganas district, was also retained by TMC, with Rahima Mondal winning despite strong campaigning from the Left and the Congress.

On the other hand, 25 Muslims from the Congress-Left alliance were victorious today, while one Muslim candidate won from All India Forward Bloc.

In 2011, a total of 57 Muslims had won elections, of which 25 were from TMC and 13 from CPI (M).
