Delhi: More than 250 Kms from Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur is village Devli in District Dausa, where 18-year-old Balram Meena lives with his parents and six siblings. His father Ram Ji Lal Meena is a poor farmer barely earning Rs 2,000 a month making it hard to meet the ends.
His son Balram, since his early childhood was inclined to education and struggled to clear his 12th standard from a government school in District Tok in Rajasthan earlier this year. After finishing his 12th, he worked as a security guard in Jaipur to contribute to his family income and support his further education.
Taking a leap, he applied for Jamia Millia Islamia for doing Bachelors degree in Urdu and although he cleared the entrance exam and got admitted in the university, the biggest question for him was: where does he find accommodation?
He applied for Jamia’s hostel facility, but his application was rejected prompting him to sleep on platforms of Delhi cantt railway station. Every day, after finishing his lectures in Jamia Millia, he used to go back to railway station for spending the night in open air.
Since last few weeks, he is being helped by his fellow students. He is presently staying on a temporary basis with a Jamia Student at a rented accommodation in Gaffar Mazil area of Jamia Nagar.
