Jamia Millia Islamia has granted hostel to Balram Meena, a 18 year old student Rajasthan who had to sleep on Railway station platform as he had no place to live in Delhi.
Meena is presently enrolled in Ist semester of BA Honours Urdu in Jamia Millia Islamia.
TwoCircles.net had reported on Wednesday, October 19 as to how a rejection of hostel application prompted Balram to sleep on platforms of Delhi cantt railway station.
Every day, after finishing his lectures in Jamia Millia, he used to go back to railway station for spending the night in open air.
“I am very thankful to you that you wrote about me. After my story came online, I was called by Provost Dr Haroon Sajjad and Dr Nadeem from our department. They have been helping me before and ensured that I will get hostel. Later I was allotted a hostel room on Monday,” said Meena over phone from Jamia Millia’s Kellat hostel.
As per Meena, the provost also helped him with paying his yearly hostel fee.
“Now I can eat good, sleep good as well as study without any worry,” he added.
Balram’s father Ram Ji Lal Meena is a poor farmer barely earning Rs 2,000 a month. Since his childhood days, Balram was inclined towards education and struggled to clear his 12th standard from a government school in District Tonk in Rajasthan earlier this year. After finishing his 12th, he had to work as a security guard in Jaipur to contribute to his family income and support his further education.
