Rana Ayyub delivers lecture at AMU

Aligarh: Rana Ayyub, an eminent journalist, independent columnist and author recently delivered a lecture and a book-reading session here on ‘Writing as a means of protest: Issues of freedom of expression and censorship’ at the University Polytechnic Auditorium.

The lecture and the book-reading session was attended by over 400 teachers, students, scholars and dignitaries. The program was organised by University Debating and Literary Club, Cultural Education Centre, AMU.

While introducing the gathering about Ayub’s work, Dr Mohibul Haque, Department of Political Science talked about her courage in releasing the book ‘Gujarat Files – anatomy of a cover up’. He added that Ayub’s book is a must read in the present conditions prevailing in the country.

Speaking on the importance of freedom of speech, Ayyub said that there were attempts to restrict freedom of speech and we need to overcome these restrictions by speaking freely.
Talking about the publication of her book and the issues it raised, Ayyub urged youth to raise their voices against wrong doings.

“Even though I am called the most trolled person but I am happy to have raised my voice,” said Ayyub adding that she raised her voice to make people aware and to open their eyes.

Ayyub further said that she has always believed that the propaganda can only be countered by speaking truth.
