Malappuram: After North East, the BJP is singing a different tune over beef in Malappuram in Kerala. During the ongoing byelection campaigns here on Saturday, BJP candidate N Sriprakash told reporters that he would take all necessary steps to ensure availability of good quality beef in his constituency if his party wins the election.
“BJP has no objection towards consuming beef. The party has not banned beef in any of the states. Only cow slaughter was banned. There is no issue in consuming food of one’s choice,” Sreeprakash said while addressing the media persons.
Sreeprakash’s opinion has come at a time when the saffron party has been on the offensive in the rest of the country over beef consumption. Since the beef issue turned a political debate across the country, the state leadership of the party has been keeping mum on the issue saying beef is not an issue in Kerala. Earlier, BJP leader V Muraleedharan had said that his party had no plans to protest against beef consumption citing his party constitution doesn’t speak about restricting the food habit of people.
