Uttar Pradesh police arrested former chief minister and national president of Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday afternoon, when he was heading to Auraiya district.
The purpose of Yadav’s visit to Auraiya was to meet SP supporters and lead a protest march against district administration for beating SP supporters on Wednesday.The police stopped him in Unnao at a police barricade on Lucknow-Agra Expressway.
Earlier SP supporters were roughed up by the police when they tried to enter the nomination room while accompanying the SP candidate Sudheer Yadav aka Kallu Singh for the post of Zilla Panchayat chairperson on Wednesday.
Supporters accused police of favoring the BJP candidate after which the tussle started between the BJP and SP supporters. Seeing the situation turn violent, police cane-charged at SP supporters and shot some tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday evening SP national president accused police of working on BJP’s orders. Yadav told that police first asked the media to turn off the cameras before cane-charging at the protestors.
After the arrest, Yadav was taken into Agricultural Research Institute, after which Police took him to a guest house near Hasanganj of Unnao.
