These children, orphaned by farmer suicides, had travelled from Maharashtra to Delhi’s Jantar Mantar to narrate the sufferings that a farmer’s family has to face after he commits suicide. At the Kisan Mukti Sansad yesterday, the children also spoke against the government’s apathy towards the conditions of farmers.

On Wednesday, when the children visited a shopping mall in Delhi before leaving for their ashram in Nashik, they were denied entry without special permission. The kids were left humiliated by mall officials and security staff.

These children, who are mostly under the age of 10, were denied entry because of their appearance and attire. The kids were wearing Nehru caps and Kurtas. Swaraj India volunteer Ashutosh told TwoCircles.net, “The guards and managerial staff did not like their appearance and told us that the dresses are not appropriate.”

“There was one more kid with us, who had a wound in his feet, therefore, he could not wear any footwear. Guards told him that barefoot entry is not allowed in the mall,” Ashutosh added.

They were allowed to enter into the mall after volunteers of Swaraj India started protesting against such behaviour of the mall authorities.

The statement raised by the Swaraj India said, “Realising the seriousness of the situation and the fact that such news could ‘hurt their image’, the mall authorities went in a damage control mode and allowed the children to enter the mall premises after apologising to them.”

The statement further said, “The fact that these kids had to face such a humiliating situation is proof enough that this city must be a witness to numerous such incidents every day. The unfortunate incident reveals not only the ignorance of the urban population of Delhi regarding the pain & sufferings of farmers but also their insensitivity towards it.”
