Hindutva goons thrash journalist in BHU as campus security watch on

By TwoCircles.net Staff Reporter

Hindutva goons attacked a local journalist Shiv Das inside the Benaras Hindu University (BHU) and snatched his mobile and deleted videos and photographs. The goons, who are said to be associated with Hindu Yuva Vahini and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, were extorting money from the shopkeepers who have set their businesses in a commercial complex around Vishwanath Temple in the name of Janmashtami celebration.

When Das heard about this misdeed, he reached the site and started shooting the extortion through his mobile phone. When goons spotted Shiv Das of shooting their activity, the argument from the both sides began.

Soon the goons started beating Shiv Das. Shiv Das’s cell phone was snatched, and videos, as well as the photographs which could have been the proof of their activity, was deleted.

The astonishing fact is the BHU’s security staff stood aside and did not intervene for a considerable amount of time. The journalist Shiv Das, in conversation with MediaVigil, said he did not want to register a complaint to University’s proctorial board.

Instead, he is planning for a police FIR against those who assaulted him. Shiv Das is also a research fellow in the Journalism Department of Banaras Hindu University and works for Sonbhadra-based tabloid Vananchal Express.
