MP CM gives Rs 1 crore to dead farmer’s family

Mandsaur (Madhya Pradesh), (IANS): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday visited Mandsaur and handed over a cheque for Rs 1 crore to the family of one of the farmers killed in police firing.

Chouhan, who reached Mandsaur on a two-day visit, went to Badwan village and met the kin of Ghanshyam Dhakad, who was shot dead by police last week during widespread protests in support of farmers’ demands.

The Chief Minister promised all assistance to Dhakad’s anguished family. He had on Tuesday pledged to provide jobs and Rs 1 crore in compensation to each of the families of the deceased farmers.

Chouhan will later visit some of the other areas in Mandsaur and Neemuch districts. He will also meet locals and farmers and take part in other programmes.

On Wednesday, some of the farmers claimed that several of their colleagues had been missing since last week’s protests.

This was stated even as the Chief Minister met Dhakad’s family.

The farmers told the media that 10 farmers, including two minors, have been missing since June 6 and said they were not sure if they had been arrested.

Meanwhile, the Congress has announced a 72-hour “satyagraha” in Bhopal in support of the farmers’ demands. This will be led by Congress leader and former union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
