AMU Students’ Union Elections postponed to December 11

Aligarh: The Chief Election Officer (CEO) for Aligarh Muslim University Students’ Union (AMUSU) elections announced on Monday that polling for the AMUSU Office bearers and representatives of University Court has been rescheduled and will now be held on December 11, 2017 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at the respective faculties.

The AMUSU polls were earlier scheduled on December 5, 2017.

When contacted for the reason behind the postponement of the election dates, Shafey Kidwai, PRO at AMU, informed that the district administration had directed the AMU officials to extend the election dates. “The administration told us to extend the election dates because of the municipal elections underway in the state,” told Kidwai to TwoCircles.net.

He added, “They said that they won’t be able to help if any law and order problem arises because of the elections.”

While announcing the election schedule for the session 2017-18, Mujib Ullah Zuberi, CEO, said that the display of the voters’ list by the respective deans will be on December 2 at 10 am, while corrections in the voters list will be allowed until 2 pm on the same day. The CEO added that the notification of the final voters’ list will also be made on December 2 at around 4:00 pm.

Filing of the nomination papers in the prescribed format at AMUSU Office for AMU Court will take place on December 4 from 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm for AMUSU. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place on December 4 from 6 pm onwards. Meanwhile, the withdrawal of nominations at the AMUSU Office will take place on December 5, 2017 from 10 am to 1 pm. The list of valid candidates will be displayed at the AMUSU Office on December 5 at about 4 pm.

He added that the allotment of serial numbers to the valid candidates at AMUSU Office will be done on December 6 from 10 am onwards, while the circulation of the final list of candidates with their allotted serial numbers will be made the same day at 4 pm.

Zuberi further said that the final speeches from Union Hall terrace by the chair candidates will take place on December 9 from 2 pm onwards after which the polling will take place on December 2017 from 9 am to 5 pm. He said that the counting of votes will start from 7 pm onwards till the declaration of the results on December 11, 2017.

Earlier, various students of the university protested after University administration delayed the declaration of the dates of the election. ​
