Maharashtra Muslims to paddle march to demand for reservations

Muslims of Maharashtra had organised a protest when Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had announced 16% reservations for the Marathas in the month of November 2018. They had demanded for 5% reservations in education and employment but things did not move forward.

Once again the Muslim Reservation Federation (MRF) are coming together to organise a protest rally in the form of Paddle March from Bhiwandi to Mumbai. They will cover a distance of 50 Km.

The march will commence on 24th February morning in Bhiwandi and conclude on 26th February at Azad Maidan, Mumbai.

They will submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra with demands not  just for the Muslim minority community but also for other minorities of Maharashtra.

The demands are:

  • 5% reservations for Muslims
  • protection of the Waqf land,
  • implementation of Sachar Committee, Ranganath Mishra commission and Mahmudur Rahman Committee reports,
  • Issuance of yellow rations cards for all people living below the poverty line;
  • Establish a University in Malegaon for women;
  • grant funds for the development of the Minority community
  • Issue caste certificates to the poor from nomadic tribes, Vimukta jaati and Other backward castes
  • District status for Malegaon

Convenor of Muslim Reservation Federation Shaikh Asif will lead the paddle march as he had earlier organised paddle march in 2003 from Malegaon to Mumbai covering 300 km.

Many NGOS working with Muslims from  Malegaon, Dhule, Bhiwandi, Thane, Nashik, Pune, Ahmed Nagar also from villages of Maharashtra are part of this march.

The coordinators of the reservation march are Hafiz Anees Azhar, Ab Haleem Siddique, Naved Khateeb and Shakeel Jani.
