Senior congress leader and three time Chief Minister of Delhi passed away today, Saturday, at 3.30 pm. She was suffering from ill health from a long time.
Sheila Dikshit was 81 years old and was on a ventilator in Escorts hospital in New Delhi when she had a cardiac arrest and passed away.
Her death has come as a shock to the congress party as she was not only amongst the senior members but also respected for her leadership qualities.
She started her political career in 1984 as a member of parliament and went on to serve as the chief Minister of Delhi thrice, governor of Kerala and also held several other positions in the political areana and outside.
Condolences are pouring in from all political parties and leaders including Prime Minister Modi on the demise of Smt Sheila Dikshit who was very close to Sonia Gandhi. She was also considered a mother figure and mentor by young aspiring party members of INC.
