New Delhi: Muslim community and religious leaders across the country in the joint statement on Wednesday called on the international community to take immediate steps for halting the Israeli aggression on Palestine.

The joint statement was issued by Syed Sadatullah Hussaini President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), Maulana Khaled Saifullah Rahmani General Secretary of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), Maulana Mahmood Madani General Secretary of Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind, Dr Manzoor Alam General Secretary of All India Milli Council, Maulana Sajjad Nomani spokesman AIMPLB and Maulana Sufyan Qasmi from Darul Uloom Deoband Waqf.

In the statement, they said “the situation in Palestine is extremely critical. Israel has launched an air offensive on the Gaza Strip after Palestinian groups fired rockets into Israeli cities as a response to Israel’s violence in Jerusalem. Scores of Palestinian children and civilians have lost their lives in Gaza during these airstrikes and hundreds more have been injured The Israeli armed forces first attacked Palestinians at the Al-Aqsa Mosque – the third-holiest site in the world for Muslims. They initiated their aggression by way of evictions in the Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan neighbourhoods through Israeli settlers who assault and detain Palestinians turning up to express solidarity with the families facing eviction from their own homes in their land. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind demands the international community, including the United Nations to immediately address these attacks and warn the Israeli government to desist from further aggression.”

The leaders offered their condolences to the family of Soumya Santosh, the woman from Kerala who died in the attacks on Israel.

Expressing grief over the loss of lives during the Israeli aggression, they said, “Our sympathy is with the mothers, sisters and brothers who have lost their young ones and the family members in the Israeli aggression. We also stand with the oppressed Palestinians who are facing the Israeli atrocities.”

They have appealed to the Muslim Ummah and all peace and justice-loving people of the world to work towards the freedom and fundamental rights of the people of Palestine by using all peaceful and constitutional means.

“India has always fought imperialist powers and supported countries in their struggle against imperialism and apartheid. We demand the government of India to come out publicly against the latest Israeli attacks and help the Palestinian people in their struggle against Israel,” the statement added.
