New Delhi : At least 45 people, including women and children, were wounded when a bomb exploded in a busy market area in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo on Saturday, a health ministry spokesperson said.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, although the military suspect the blast was the work of Tamil Tiger militants, who have been fighting for an independent state for 25 years.
Fighting has intensified recently with government troops conducting a large-scale ground operation against the Tamil Tigers in northern Sri Lanka.
More than 70,000 people have died in the conflict since 1983.
