"I wanted to stand up and be counted among the millions of Harry Potter fans who were the first ones to get their copy of the latest edition," he said.

Die-hard Harry Potter fans queued up outside bookstores here long before the 6.30 a.m. time for the official release of the seventh book of J.K. Rowling's popular fantasy series.

Bahar Sandhu, a Class 8 student said: "I was waiting for this book to arrive. All the stories in newspapers and on television channels about the suspense regarding Harry Potter's fate had heightened my anxiety".

"We have sold nearly 200 copies of the latest edition in the first three hours," said an employee of the Browser Library in Sector 8.

In Sector 17, where at least four leading bookstores had opened early for the sale of the new book, 100-150 copies had been sold in the morning.
