Mumbai : Abdul Subhan Qureishi alias Tauqir, the alleged mastermind behind Saturday’s New Delhi serial blasts, is innocent, said his mother Zubeida Qureshi, adding that he should be punished if found guilty.
“I have not seen or met him for the past nearly eight years. He could not have done such a thing. But if he is guilty, he must be punished,” she declared at a press conference here Wednesday afternoon.
She also urged him to come out in the open and face trial.
She along with several representatives of Muslim social organisations and Muslim clerics condemned the blasts carried out by the Indian Mujahideen.
However, Zubeida Qureshi accused media of dragging his son’s name into reports of the blasts. “We have a respectable background and have brought up our children with good values. They cannot do anything like this, but if proved guilty, he should get the strictest possible punishment,” she said in an emotion charged voice.
At least 24 people were killed and nearly 100 injured in five bomb blasts in the national capital Saturday evening.
Investigators believe it was Tauqir who sent a threat email on behalf of the Indian Mujahideen to media organisations just after the initial blasts in New Delhi, as also minutes before the July 26 serial blasts in Ahmedabad.
