The second international conference on Proximity Among Islamic Schools of Thought was launched at the Islamic Center of England (ICE).

Secretary-General of the Tehran-based World Assembly for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri sent a message to the conference, stressing the freedom of expression in Islam based on consciousness and wisdom.

Ayatollah Taskhiri also highlighted the role of freedom of speech in promoting the high Islamic and humanitarian values.

The conference, themed ‘Proximity; Discourse in Support of the Holy Quran and Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)’, aims to forge unity among different Islamic sects.

Head of the ICE, Abdolhossein Moezzi, said in a press conference Thursday, that consolidation in ideology and religion is a basic principle in Islam.

“Unity in the Islamic Ummah currently forms the basis for more friendly relations among Muslims”, Moezzi said, adding that some elements and “enemies” are trying to sow the seeds of discord among Muslims, particularly at the present time, when Muslim states are gaining breakthroughs in different sectors.

“The idea of proximity among Islamic schools of thought is in fact a movement towards constructing unity and promoting common stances among Muslims against anti-Islamic conspiracies,” he said.

Islamic scholars from Iran, Britain, Pakistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina and France have attended the conference to discuss various issues including proximity among Islamic schools of thought.

Moezzi said presentations, following the holding of the first successful conference in London last year, will be made in support of the holy Quran and Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
