Suspected U.S. drones launch missile attack in Pakistan’s tribal area, 5 killed

By Xinhua,

Islamabad : Suspected United States drones launched on Friday a missile attack in Pakistan’s South Waziristan tribal area, killing five persons, private DAWN NEWS TV channel reported.

The suspected U.S. drones fired two missiles at a house at Daug village in South Waziristan and five persons were reportedly killed.

The missile attack in South Waziristan came in quick succession to another one which left at least 20 people dead in North Waziristan on Friday.

Local media reports said that some U.S. drones also fired two missiles at a house in North Waziristan and most of the dead were Arabs including an al-Qaida commander.

Friday’s cross-border missile attacks occurred at a time when Pakistan is voicing its strong protest and the U.S. justifies such attacks.

Addressing the weekly news briefing, Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesman Mohammad Sadiq said that the U.S. drone attacks were antagonizing people in the tribal areas and undermining Pakistan’s efforts to seek broader support for the efforts against terrorism.

“We condemn these attacks. These are most unfortunate and constitute a gross violation of our sovereignty and territory,” he said.

Meanwhile, private TV channel Geo quoted the U.S. homeland security chief Michael Chertoff as saying that a country should have the right to attack another if it was harboring a potential terrorist threat.
