Following the discussions, the two sides held a joint press conference to which Moussa indicated that discussions predominantly surrounded the Sudanese comprehensive peace deal between North and South as well as the Darfur conflict and an Arab package solution to solve the International Criminal Court (ICC) dispute with Sudan.

On his assessment of Sudanese efforts to implement the package solution, Moussa said that steps taken by the country to amend its penal code as it agreed to in the Rome Agreement as well as the Arab package solution were strategic decisions towards solving the ICC issue.

Regarding fears of a south Sudan breakaway region he said that “we (Arab League) are focusing on the implementation of the comprehensive peace agreement between the north and the south and are working to keep this alliance a magnet for the people of Sudan with voting to aim at this objective.

” He added that a number of Arab countries are carrying out projects in the south to develop the area and create an attractive safehaven for future unification plans.

On his part the Sudanese foreign minister agreed with Moussa’s views saying that the Nefasha 2005 peace agreement will insure reconciliation between the North and the South and that he believed unification was his number one choice.

He also said that the Sudanese government was currently concentrating more on the Darfur crisis and reconciliation efforts in the country than on the ICC prosecutor indictment of President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir.

The Arab League is currently holding negotiations with Qatar in order for the latter to hold a ministerial Arab-African committee meeting on the Darfur crisis in Doha.

Alor Kuol affirmed he is to take part in the meeting in light of its strategic outcome in creating a unified groundwork any sort of future agreement.
