Kolkata : Two police cases were registered against Trinamool Congress lawmaker Sonali Guha and her supporters for locking up a West Bengal police station and using abusive language against a police official, the police said Wednesday.
“We have filed two cases under Sections 353, 341 and 506 against Guha and her supporters Wednesday for locking at least 13 policemen including IC (inspector-in-charge) S. Basu inside Nodakhali police station in South 24 Parganas Tuesday night.
“Guha even used abusive language and threatened the IC that is beyond her limit as a MLA,” Ajay Ranade, district police superintendent, told reporters.
According to police officials, Guha and about 100 Trinamool supporters had locked the police officials inside Nodakhali police station Tuesday night for about six hours, demanding the arrest of the people who had lynched a man Nov 20.
“After about six hours of demonstration outside the police station, Guha unlocked the doors and started abusing the IC. She even threatened to slap him for his inaction in the Nov 20 case,” a police official said.
Assembly Speaker Hashim Abdul Halim told a TV channel: “Guha has the right to protest against any unrighteous incidents in her area. But this is not the right way to protest. This is a dishonour to her position as a MLA. If the charges against her are proved right, necessary action will be taken against her.”
