New York : Indian American astronaut Sunita Willams, who returned last month after spending six months on the International Space Station, is to attend India's Independence Day parades in Chicago and New York.
Williams, who lives in Houston, has agreed to be the Grand Marshal at the parade organised by the Federation of Indian Associations-Chicago in Chicago on Aug 18. The previous night she is to attend a banquet organised by the federation, its president Iftekhar Shareef told IANS.
On Aug 19, Williams is scheduled to attend the India Day Parade in New York as Guest of Honour, said Shobhana Patel, president of the Federation of Indian Associations of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra will lead the New York parade as Grand Marshal.
