A top police official termed as ‘baseless’ reports in a section of media that a computer centre owner in the coastal district of Krishna was arrested for the Mumbai attacks.

Krishna district superintendent of police D. Ramakrishnaiah clarified that nobody has been arrested.

Some Telugu television channels reported that Mastan, a post-graduate in computer science and owner of computer training institute at Trivuru in Krishna district, was arrested as his e-mail address was found with the terrorist who carried out the brazen strike in Mumbai.

The reports also claimed that Mastan had several contacts in Karachi and that police seized four hard disks and a mobile phone.

The official clarified that police checked the records of Mastan’s computer centre as part of searches of internet cafes and computer training centres in the district.

There is a high alert in the state and the police were also frisking people, and searching vehicles and hotels, he said.
