“None will be allowed to hold, convene or attend any public meeting after Saturday midnight,” a spokesman of BEC told Xinhua on Saturday quoting a circular.

He said the commission in a circular on Friday also directed that the restrictions will continue for another 48 hours after the completion of Monday’s vote.

The spokesman said BEC has also imposed a ban on movement of some types of vehicles like auto rickshaws, cars, buses, trucks and motorized water vehicles in metropolitan areas from midnight of Dec. 28 till midnight of Dec. 29.

He said the ban will not be applicable to the movement of vehicles transporting poll observers and journalists, and the vehicles for carrying law enforcers, patients, and utility service providers.

The ban, however, will not be effective on the highways of the country, he said.
