Jammu : At least two militants, including a foreigner, were killed in a fierce gun battle in mountainous Doda district, North-East of Jammu, on Monday.
At least fifteen LeT militants have been killed and six others arrested in the district during the current year, Senior Superintendent of Police Doda Manhor Singh told News Agency of Kashmir.
Giving details of the encounter, he said, on receiving specific inputs about the movement of militants a special police party launched a massive combat operation at Gugnallah Trakar, Dhar Trenkal late last evening.
The militant hideout was cordoned off and a gun battle erupted early this morning, he said adding, in the ensuing encounter two militants were gunned down.
He identified the slain militants as John Muhammad alias Bilal of Kunthal and Abu Shakool Afghani. One SLR with one magazine, 1 pistol with 2 magazines, 1 wireless set and 1 pouch were recovered from the slain militants.
He added that the operation was in progress in the area.
