Pa Assesses Gaza Damages, UN Stop Aid

By Prensa latina,

Ramallah : The Palestinian government described on Thursday as a catastrophe the human and material damages due to Israeli aggression in Gaza, with a brutality and magnitude forcing the UN to cut off efforts there.

Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority (PA), Salam Fayyad, compared damages caused by Israeli bombings to those of the war of 1948-1949, when the Jewish state was founded.

As popular and political sectors, including Al Fatah movement, staged marches in Ramallah, Fayyad said that the Gaza population is currently facing “a humanitarian catastrophe, a new Nakba of an unprecedented nature since 1949.”

Palestinians describe as Nakba or tragedy he proclamation of Israel in May 1948, as millions of Arabs had to abandon their lands because of the war.

At least 770 people, including 219 children, have been killed and another 3,100 wounded in thirteen days of Israeli bombings that also left incalculable material damages.

Today, a convoy with aid was hit by Israeli missiles during an alleged three-hour pause in its Gaza offensive, prompting a reaction from the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which decided to suspend its operations there.

According to Qatari Al Jazeera channel, in the said period (from 13:00 to 16: 00 local time), relief workers retrieved 50 bodies from streets and destroyed buildings.
