Huge Karachi rally condemns Israeli aggression on Gaza

By IRNA,

Islamabad : Thousands of people participated in a big rally in the Pakistani port city of Karachi on Sunday to condemn the Israeli attacks on Gaza.

Jamaaat-e-Islami staged a largely-attended demonstration to express solidarity with the Palestinian Muslims.

The participants threw shoes at the big photographs of the U.S. President George W. Bush and the Prime Minister of the Zionist regime Ehud Olmert.

The demonstrators also burnt U.S. and Zionist regime flags and effigies of their leaders.

Addressing the demonstrators, Jamaat chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed said that majority of Muslim rulers were serving the American interests so they would not stop Zionists from attacking Palestinians.

“Around 1.5 billion Muslims are under the rule of such leaders who are allies of the Western leaders,” he said.

He hailed the bravery of Hamas members as well as the Palestinian people who faced the attacks in which even phosphorus gas was used. He also condemned the role of the United Nations and said it was serving the interests of the West.

He said Israelis were committing crimes but no one is stopping them, adding Israeli attacks have united Muslims across the world.

The Jamaat leader further condemned the government for granting country’s highest awards to the U.S officials and said Pakistani government was acting as if it was an agent of America.

Qazi Hussain also criticized those leaders of the Islamic states who were offering friendship to Americans.

The demonstrators were holding banners and placards with anti-Israeli and anti-U.S slogans on them. They were also chanting slogans in favour of Palestinians.

Other demonstrations were also held in a number of major cities in Pakistan to condemn the Israeli aggression.

Addressing the rally Jamaat secretary general and leaders from other religious parties said though the U.S fully backed the Zionist attacks, leaders of certain Islamic countries refused to show full support to the oppressed Palestinians.

They said peace in the world could only be restored if the dual standards of the U.S came to an end. He said that in order to expand its borders and legalise its existence, Israel carried out missile attacks on innocent Palestinians and killing of over 1000 Muslims in the attacks was a condemnable act.

They also urged the OIC and Arab nations to unite against Israel and the U.S.
