“There cannot be two prime ministers and under the constitution, there can only be one prime minister,” Congress general secretary Verappa Moily told reporters at Vigyan Bhavan here.

To a question on whether the party was contemplating any change in leadership, Moily said: “The question is irrelevant.”

In response to a question why External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee was not made officiating prime minister, Moily said: “What is done today is not abnormal. The decisions have been taken in accordance with the convention and according to the constitution. In the past too, whenever the prime minister goes abroad the seniormost minister performs the duties.”

Moily showed his confidence in the leadership of Manmohan Singh and said that the prime minister would resume his duties in two weeks.

“He is a man of strong will power. I am confident that he will be back to his duty within two weeks and would come back with more energy,” Moily said.
