Mumbai: “Communalism, regionalism and casteism are the threats to the internal security,” said Congress leader and Member of the Parliament Rashid Alwi in a program in Mumbai yesterday.
More than 30% of MPs are indulged in crimes; most of them are elected on the base of communalism or casteism, Alwi said. He was speaking at a symposium on ‘Internal Security’ organized by the Urdu Press Club at Islam Gymkhana on January 24.
Rejecting the connection between Islam and terrorism, Alwi said: “If Islam teaches the lessons of terrorism to its followers there must be terrorists everywhere, but there are only few terrorists with Muslim names.”
Abdur Rasheed, an MP from Kashmir, asked the Muslims to contribute their best to the security of the country despite discriminations they are facing due to their religion. ‘Though Muslims are deprived of justice somewhere and neglected a lot it should not allow them to not take care of country’s security,” he said.
The participants discussed the factors creating problems in internal insecurity and offered some suggestions to stabilize the internal security system.
Saying that that internal security was a great problem K L Prasad, joint commissioner law and order said that, ‘Internal security claims nearly hundred of security officers per year.’ He also said that external security was less important when compared with internal security.
He also said that there are certain persons poisoning the minds of other people. We should identify those people. If the ratio of Muslim terrorists is counted they would not constitute even one per cent of their total population, he said.
