Berling : German Chancellor Angela Merkel had a long phone call Monday evening with US President Barack Obama on issues including the conflict in the Middle East, an official statement said.
A spokesman of the German government said Tuesday in a press release that Merkel and Obama also discussed the world financial and economic crises and stressed on the importance of international cooperation to overcome them.
In addition, they talked about the summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to be held in France, the situation in Afghanistan, and climate change, the release added.
Merkel and Obama agreed that it was vital that the United States and Europe coordinate and cooperate to overcome the challenges of the 21st century, the spokesman said.
