Deputy to Pakistani Taliban chief injured in remote control bomb blast

ISLAMABAD : Anwar Saeed Mehsood, deputy to Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsood, was injured Monday in a remote control bomb attack in Pakistan’s tribal area of South Waziristan.

The private NNI news agency quoted witnesses and officials in the area as saying that Saeed was going to Jandola when his vehicle came under attack at the Tanga area of South Waziristan.

One person was killed while another was injured. The vehicle was also damaged in the attack.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Baitullah Mehsood is wanted by the Pakistani government in connection with the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and series of suicide attacks and bomb blasts.

He has also differences with a splinter Taliban group, headed by Mulla Nazir, in South Waziristan.
