New Delhi : Troubled over his financial difficulties, a 35-year-old unemployed man poisoned his two sons before consuming poison himself at his northwest Delhi home. The police Thursday said the man and his elder son have died, while the younger son was still battling for life.

Suresh Kumar gave poison-laced snacks to his two sons – Himanshu, 7, and Vipanshu, 4, and also consumed them himself at his Kirari Nangloi village home in Aman Vihar late Wednesday. According to the police, Suresh’s wife Babita had gone to the market to buy vegetables at the time of incident.

When she returned an hour later, she found all the three lying unconscious on the floor and frothing at their mouth. She called their neighbours who rushed them to the Jaipur Golden Hospital.

However, Suresh died at the hospital late Wednesday and Himanshu died at the early Thursday.

“Vipanshu is out of danger and recuperating in the hospital. He said his father served them snacks and following that, they all fell asleep,” said a police officer.

The police have recovered a suicide note from Suresh.

“Suresh, in his note, said he was unhappy with his life and all the financial problems. He said he was giving poison to both his sons as well and wants no one to be blamed for the extreme step. Suresh also apologised to his family members,” the officer added.

Suresh, who had studied till Class 10, was in a state of depression because of his financial difficulties.

“Suresh was jobless and relied on the post-retirement pension of his mother, who was a Class IV employee. His wife too used to do small time chores and tried to make ends meet – while he sat at home, doing nothing,” the officer added.
