Supporter cuts his tongue for Andhra chief minister’s victory

Hyderabad : A die-hard supporter of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Wednesday cut his tongue while praying for another term for the Congress leader, police said.

The youth, identified only as Mahesh, cut his tongue with a sharp blade in Sri Venkateshwara Swami temple in Srinagar Colony here. He was bleeding profusely and was taken to a private hospital.

The police said Mahesh, a native of West Godavari district, resorted to the act while praying for the victory of Rajasekhara Reddy and his Congress party. He had also cut his tongue before 2004 elections.

The first phase of simultaneous polls to the state assembly and the Lok Sabha is scheduled to be held Thursday.
