Mumbai: While Dr Salman Farsi, one of the Malegaon 2006 blasts accused, is yet to call off his indefinite hunger strike the relatives of some other co-accused have threatened to go on the similar strike if the ‘innocents’ arrested in the case by the Anti Terrorism Squad of Maharashtra are not released.
‘We have no other option except hunger strike,’ Qamar Jahan, the wife of the accused Shabbir Ahmad Maseehullah, reportedly said.
Samreen (wife of the accused Noorul Huda), Afia (Dr Farooq Iqbal Ahmad Makhdoomi’s wife) and Badrun Nisa (wife of Raees Ahmad Razzaq Ali Mansoori) besides Qamar Jahan have passed the threat of hunger strike to the ATS if their husbands accused in the Malegaon blasts are not released.
‘Shabbir was arrested in August one month before the Malegaon September 2006 blasts for enquiry but how on the earth they later arrested him in connection with the blasts. After the arrest ATS raided our house, tortured the family members but found no proofs,’ Qamar Jahan said. Qamar Jahan who was married to Shabbir in 1995 has five children.
Just after some months they got married in May 2006 Samreen’s husband Noorul Huda was arrested in October. ‘Since then Samreen has lost her sense,’ Humaida, the mother of Huda told adding that only the gift from a well wisher enables us to visit the son. ‘Since June there has been no contact with the son.’
Afia who claims innocence of her husband Makhdoomi told that it were the patients who informed us the police had taken away the Dr. ‘He was not allowed to even make a call to home when he was arrested.’
‘Everyone knows about Sadhvi Pragya Singh and Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit, the alleged culprits of Malegaon 2008 blasts. These very elements are involved in the 2006 blasts also but my husband is still behind the bars,’ alleged Badrun Nisa, wife of Raees Ahmad Razzaq Ali Mansoori. She is worried about the future of their two children who are being taken care of by her brother. ‘Due to the financial crisis I am not able to visit my husband in the jail.’
All the accused in Malegaon September 8, 2006 blasts that claimed nearly 37 persons and injured scores others, are in Ratnagiri Jail, 10-hours distance from Malegaon. Attributing the blasts to the alleged SIMI outfits the ATS had arrested only Muslim youths, imposed MCOCA on them and sent them to jail.
One of the accused Dr Salman Farsi, an alleged SIMI member, has been on hunger strike since March 18 demanding release of the ‘innocent’ youths and earliest submission of the investigation report by CBI.
Due to his deteriorating conditions he was shifted to Ratnagiri Civil Hospital from Ratnagiri Jail and then to the J J Hospital of Mumbai where he is undergoing treatment.
