New Delhi : Senior Congress leader and Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh Monday vented his deep disappointment over his son and daughter being denied the party ticket, saying he was shocked at what the party had given him in return for his loyalty.
In an interview to NDTV, Singh said the Congress party did not differentiate between “honour and humiliation”.
Asked whether he felt slighted, the senior Congress leader said: “Slighted is a word that does not appeal to me… I’m shocked by what is in store for loyalty.”
The Congress denied the ticket to his daughter Veena Singh from Sidhi and son Ajeya Singh from Satna in Madhya Pradesh. Veena is now fighting as an independent from the constituency, while his son, a legislator from Churhat, has decided against contesting for the Lok Sabha.
Asked whether he felt humiliated by the party, Arjun Singh said: “Honour and humiliation have ceased to be concepts which the Congress party deals with.”
However, he said that giving tickets was the prerogative of the party.
He also said he would campaign for the Congress against his daughter, but added that while it was part of politics, it was “certainly not part of human relations”.
Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan dismissed his comments with: “I believe his (Arjun Singh) work for the party is his own reward.”
