Tehran : Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced Monday that Tehran would soon present its new package of proposals aimed at resolving the country’s nuclear standoff.
In an interview to ABC TV network, Ahmadinejad said the new package of proposals would be an updated version of the previous one, IRNA reported.
The Iranian president reiterated that “Tehran welcomes friendly ties with all world states” and wants all the international issues to be resolved.
This was Ahmadinejad’s first interview with an American network after the election of President Barack Obama.
On Iran-US talks, the president said: “I sent a message of congratulations to Mr Obama. It was a great work. Since the Iranian nation is annoyed by the US approach, I came under fire at home but I did it. however, I have received no response yet.”
He added that Tehran intended to hold talks with both the Americans and the Europeans. “We have announced that we are ready for talks on the basis of mutual respect and justice,” he said.
He underlined the need for having a clear-cut framework for the talks, stressing, “We are always ready to hold talks.”
Grounds should be prepared for active participation of all nations and states in global management, Ahmadinejad said, adding, “We are ready to help promote peace and friendship throughout the globe.”
The US and its allies believe Iran’s nuclear programme is aimed at producing weapons, a charge Iran has denied.
Iran insists that its nuclear activities are of peaceful purpose and meant to generate electricity.
