George Town (Malaysia) : An out-of-job ethnic Indian man has been arrested for allegedly beating his handicapped daughter to death three years ago and then secretly burying her.
Three brothers of the seven-year-old victim, identified as Priya, led police to the shallow grave, The Star newspaper said Thursday.
Only 60 percent of the skeletal remains of the child could be exhumed by the police who acted on a tip-off from one of the sons. He accused the father of allegedly killing her in 2006.
Neither the man nor his sons were identified. But the man, 40, was arrested after the body was exhumed.
State CID chief Senior Asst Commissioner II Wan Abdullah Tuanku Said stated that the police were assisted by forensic pathologist Bhupinder Singh, also an ethnic Indian.
“Our investigations found that the girl, identified as Priya, could have been beaten to death with a stick in March 2006.
“She was then taken to the site and buried. We have classified the case as murder.”
The reason behind the father’s act was not clear.
Indians form about eight percent of Malaysia’s 28 population. A bulk of them are Tamils who came here during the British era and live in poor conditions.
