Madhya Pradesh recommends CBI probe into legislator’s murder

By IANS,

Bhopal : The Madhya Pradesh government has recommended a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the murder of a Congress legislator in the state.

“We have forwarded the matter to the central government with a request to conduct a CBI probe. Now it’s up to them to either accept or reject it,” Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Vinod Chowdhary said.

Makhan Lal Jatav, legislator from Gohad assembly seat, was shot from point blank range April 13 near Chharetav village in Bhind district when he was returning after canvassing for Bhagirath Prasad, the Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Bhind.

Deputy leader of the Congress in the state assembly, Chaudhary Rakesh Singh Chaturvedi, had said that the legislator’s murder issue would be taken up in the house.

Chaturvedi said: “Jatav had no enmity with anyone – either over land or any other issue. The problem began only after he won the election and became a legislator.”

A delegation led by Leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi met Chief Minister Shivraj Singh

Chouhan Monday to demand a CBI probe into the incident.
