Jammu : Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants are believed to have been killed along with a woman associate in an ongoing gunbattle with security forces in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir Friday morning, officials said.
“We believe that two militants and their associate Shakeela have been killed but we can confirm this only when we recover the bodies,” Doda district Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Singh told IANS.
A group of militants entered the house of contractor Mohammad Sharief Naik in village Dhara Chaka of Doda district, about 180 km northeast of Jammu, late Thursday night.
Security forces cordoned off the house and asked the militants to surrender.
Brigadier General Staff of 16 Corps Brig Gurdeep Singh said: “The widow of a terrorist was also inside so we sent her mother inside the house to ask her to surrender but the daughter refused.”
The firing between the militants and security forces began Friday morning.
“We even used rocket launchers as the militants were firing heavily and throwing grenades,” said Prabhat Singh.
He added that Naik’s daughter Shakeela was married to a militant Haq Nawaz who was killed a few years ago.
“This lady was used as a logistics helper,” Prabhat Singh said.
Gurdeep Singh said the operation to flush out the terorists was going on. “We have to move very cautiously to avoid any collateral damage.”
