New Delhi : The 22 new police stations in the capital, sanctioned by the home ministry recently, will be operational by Sep 21 to “reduce response time and simplify the police-public ratio” in the city that has been under threat from terrorists, police chief Y.S. Dadwal said Thursday.
“We are in a process of expansion and would have enough forces in these police stations,” Dadwal told reporters here.
The central government Tuesday also sanctioned 6,478 additional policemen for the capital in the wake of terror threat perceptions.
“I am glad to inform you that taking note of the growing needs of the metropolitan city of Delhi, the central government has sanctioned additional manpower of 6,478 policemen at a cost of Rs.199 crore (Rs.1.99 billion) per annum. Further, 29 new police stations have also been sanctioned,” Home Minister P. Chidambaram said Tuesday.
With 29 new police stations, the total number of police stations in Delhi has increased to 155. Of these 29 police stations, seven are already operational.
Dadwal said the creation of new police stations will help in better policing and service to the people.
“There will be more beats which will help in reducing response time besides simplifying the police-public ratio,” said Dadwal, adding it would help in the better handling of complaints.
“Boundaries of some of the police stations have been re-organised in order to ensure that police services are significantly improved in areas where the incidence of crime has been analysed to be high,” he said.
