Algiers : A branch of the Al Qaeda terror network in North Africa claimed responsibility for two suicide bombings last week in Algeria, pan-Arab satellite TV al-Jazeera reported Sunday.
The report quoted a web statement by the outfit, which calls itself Al Qaeda Organization in the Islamic Maghreb, as confirming that it was the group which launched the two deadly attacks on Sep 6 and Sep. 8.
The statement did not give details about the attacks.
A suicide bombing rocked Saturday the Mediterranean port town of Dellys, 100 km east of the Algerian capital, leaving at least 30 people dead and 47 others injured. It came two days after a suicide bombing attack struck the eastern Algerian city of Batna, killing 22 people and wounding 107 others.
