Khuti has been created out of Ranchi district, while Ramgarh has been carved out of Hazaribagh.

“The new districts will provide better administration and help people to get their work done,” Chief Minister Madhu Koda said.

A ceremony was organised to formally launch the new districts. It was attended by Koda, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief Shibu Soren, state ministers.

Since the state came into being in 2000, six new districts have been formed. Four were carved out in 2001, when Babulal Marandi was the chief minister.

People of Khuti and Ramgarh are happy with the new districts. Sweets were distributed and crackers fired in these places to celebrate the occasion.

“We had to travel 70 km to Ranchi to get our work done. Now the creation of Khuti as a new district will reduce the distance of our village from the district headquarter by half,” said Vinay Ojha, a resident of the Rania block in Khuti district.

Some people in Hazaribagh are, however, unhappy with the creation of the Ramgarh district. The bar association of the district had filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in Jharkhand High Court which was rejected on Tuesday.

“Ramgarh lacks the basic infrastructure and people will face problems,” said Suhel Ansari, one of the petitioners.
