New Delhi: The Delhi government Monday said that essential food items would soon be available at rates lower than the current market prices at 300 centres across the national capital.
“Modalities in this direction are being finalised,” Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said at a function to celebrate Republic Day at Ambedkar Stadium here.
In an official statement, Dikshit stated that her government has been providing timely relief to all people, including the poorest sections hit by the inflation.
“Essential food items will soon be available in Delhi at rates much less than prevalent market rates. The items will include cooking oil, food grains, rice and flour. The city government has approached NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation) in this connection. The items will be available at 300 centres across the city,” the statement added.
“Nutritious flour at less than Rs.14 per kilogram is being sold through Kendriya Bhandars. Apart from this pulses are also being supplied at reasonable prices,” it added.
Dikshit unfurled the national flag Monday, consecutively for the 12th time for Republic Day celebrations in the city.
Dikshit also inspected the parade and took salute. Contingents of Delhi Police, Home Guards and Civil Defence, NCC and school children joined the march past. A colourful cultural programme was also presented by school children on the occasion.
