New Delhi: At least 8,227 rooms are now ready for the 2010 Commonwealth Games that the national capital is set to host later this year.

Tourism Minister Kumari Selja Monday reviewed the hotel accommodation for the CWG in a high-level meeting that included officials of all land-owning agencies like the Delhi Development Authority, the Haryana government, the Uttar Pradesh government, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), the Ministry of Urban Development and Delhi Jal Board among others.

Selja reviewed all the new hotel projects coming up for the CWG-2010 along with licensed guest houses, Bed and Breakfast establishments and DDA housing flats located in Vasant Kunj.

“The review indicated 8,227 rooms have been completed, which accounts for 75 percent of the overall 10,981 ‘definite’ rooms,” an official statement said here.

The minister requested all land-owning agencies to take up upgradation and beautification of the surrounding areas and approach roads to the new hotel projects.

“At the same time, it is also the prime responsibility of all the land owning agencies to grant ‘Completion Certificate’ in a time-bound manner and on a priority basis so that the hotels which are becoming operational can commence their business as soon as possible, as this will facilitate in obtaining the necessary statutory licenses by the hotels,” the statement added.

It is estimated that 11,028 rooms would be available from licensed guest houses in Delhi.

“Beautification and upgradation of the surrounding areas to guest houses in Karol Bagh and Pahar Ganj area was reviewed. The MCD was directed to complete all the works regarding upgradation and beautification of the identified major and internal roads, urinal blocks, rotaries, parks and signages,” the statement said.
