Washington: The “Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership” announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Tuesday will conduct studies in four key areas of nuclear energy systems, nuclear security, radiation Safety, and applications of radioisotopes and radiation technology.
The Centre being set up by the Department of Atomic Energy will have four schools to conduct research and development of design systems that are intrinsically safe, secure, proliferation resistant and sustainable.
The School of Advanced Nuclear System Studies would pursue design studies and analyses of advanced nuclear energy systems with features to achieve intrinsically enhanced safety security, proliferation resistance and sustainability.
The School of Nuclear Security is tasked with imparting training to security forces on application of physical protection systems and response procedures, developing modern technological tools to enhance security of nuclear facilities and providing facilities for testing and evaluation of sensors and systems.
The School of Radiological Safety Studies will carry out research and development of radiation monitoring systems for nuclear facilities, develop nuclear emergency management tools, study radiation transportation and shielding and maintain and update radiation protection standards.
The School for Application of Radioisotopes and Radiation Technologies will provide state of the art research, development, demonstration and training facilities in the areas of healthcare, agriculture and food, management of water resources as also waste water management.
