Nine killed in two road accidents in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Sep 25 (IANS) At least nine people were killed and over a dozen people sustained injuries in two separate road accidents that took place in Orissa, police said Tuesday.

At least five people died and seven were injured late Monday after the Bolero vehicle in which they were travelling slipped from the main road and hit a road side tree near Amlipali village under Jujomura police station in the district of Sambalpur, some 300 km from here, district police chief S. Debadatta Singh told IANS.

A police patrolling party spotted the accident and moved the victims to the local government hospital, he said. One of the injured is in a critical condition, he said.

In a separate incident, four people died Tuesday when they were standing on a local road at a vegetable market at Maratira village and a heavily loaded truck hit them, a local police official said.

Six people sustained injuries and all of them are undergoing treatment in the local government hospital, he said.
