Lucknow : The Congress party will launch a campaign across Uttar Pradesh to promote communal harmony by highlighting the contribution of freedom fighters from different castes and religions, party officials said Tuesday.
“The campaign ‘Sanjhi Virasat… Sanjhi Shahadat’ is aimed at projecting the secular and composite culture of Uttar Pradesh that in turn will help promote communal harmony,” Amaresh Misra, in-charge of the party’s Anti-Communal Front told reporters here.
The campaign will start May 31 and will continue till May 10 next year.
“Sharing stories of sacrifices made by lesser known freedom fighters of the state and holding public meetings to felicitate freedom fighters or those who worked to promote communal harmony during the freedom struggle would be the main highlights of the campaign,” Misra added.
Nearly 50 different places associated with those who laid down their lives during the freedom struggle have been selected for the campaign, party officials said.
The campaign will start from Bareilly, some 250-km from Lucknow.
