Madhya Pradesh police hunt for 60 explosives-laden trucks

By IANS,

Bhopal : Madhya Pradesh Police are investigating the mysterious disappearance of at least 60 trucks loaded with explosives between April-June while these were on way to the state from neighbouring Rajasthan, an official said Wednesday.

“It’s a matter of concern that some 60 trucks loaded with items that can be used for landmine blasts, have failed to reach Sagar in Madhya Pradesh with the consignment despatched from Rajasthan, between late April-June,” Inspector General of Police, Sagar Range, Anvesh Mangalam told IANS over phone.

Police have begun a probe after it was found that a Sagar-based private firm Ganesh Explosives did not get the consignment of explosives sent in trucks by Rajasthan Explosives and Chemicals Ltd.

“We are dealing with the matter very seriously but we are not sure whether the trucks had entered Madhya Pradesh or not, we are trying to reach the persons who ordered for the explosives,” the officer said.

The explosives are estimated to be more than 300 tonnes in weight and police suspect that its purchase was illegal.

“The company that ordered for explosives had surrendered its licence before the order for explosives was booked, I suspect some foul play in the matter. Perhaps, the explosives were diverted in transit,” Mangalam said.
