New Delhi : The name of senior Rajya Sabha MP Mani Shankar Aiyar, who has been extremely critical of the preparations for the Commonwealth Games, was repeatedly mentioned by the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Delhi assembly Tuesday.
The opposition referred to his statements while raising the issue of corruption in Games projects and alleging the state government’s hand in it.
Opposition leader V.K. Malhotra said it is not only the BJP that has raised the issue of irregularities in the CWG projects, but also the Congress party’s own leader.
“And now a panel led by him has been asked to review seven cultural centres,” he said.
“The Delhi chief minister (Sheila Dikshit) says all those who are protesting against the Games are unpatriotic, but the whole criticism started from a person whom the Congress nominated to the Rajya Sabha,” Malhotra said.
Congress’ Subhash Chopra criticised the BJP for not letting the youth of the country get the required encouragement for the Games.
In reply, the BJP legislators shouted: “Ask Mani Shankar Aiyar.”
