Ranchi : After media reports that a police inspector, convicted of murder, had been promoted to the rank of deputy superintendent of police, the Jharkhand police Wednesday said he would not be promoted and the process has begun to terminate his services.
“Murder convict police inspector Bhagwan Prasad will not be promoted to Deputy SP (superintendent of police) rank. Process has been initiated to terminate his service,” R.K. Mallik, Jharkhand police spokesperson told IANS.
There were media reports that Prasad had been promoted and after the promotion he has been posted in the special branch of the police department.
Bhagwan Prasad was convicted by a Central Bureau of Investigation court last year for killing Ranjana Palit a school teacher last year. Prasad, who had an illicit relationship with Palit, burnt her to death fearing that she might expose him.
Prasad has been cooling his heels in the Birsa Munda Central Jail here since the judgment. However, his name figured in the list approved by a meeting of the promotions-board early this month.
Police sources said Bhagwan Prasad’s name figured in the list approved by the police promotions-board which decides the promotion of police officials. The first promotion list was prepared and according to sources Prasad’s name figured in the list.
